L1.2 MOHO Flashcards
what is MOHO? and its purpose?
MOHO = model of human occupation
MOHO seeks to explain how occupation is motivated (volition), organised (habituation), performed (performance) and influenced by the environment, to influence occupational adaption
who is MOHO for and where is it used?
- for use with any person experiencing problems in their occupational life
- applicable across life span e.g. adults w/chronic pain, children with ADHD, persons w/ traumatic brain injury etc.
what is the overall focus of MOHO?
OCCUPATIONAL ADAPTION
- the extent to which one can develop a positive occupational identity and achieve occupational competence overtime and in the context of one’s environment
what are the 4 integrated constructs of MOHO?
- Person
- ‘dimension of doing’
- environment
- occupational adaption
describe the integrated construct ‘person’
1a) Volition (one’s motivation for occupation, the process which people are motivated toward and choose what they do)
- influenced by three components: Personal Causation (one’s sense of competence and effectiveness), Values (what one finds good, right, important and meaningful to do), Interests (what one finds enjoyable and satisfying to do)
1b) Habituation (the process by which occupational behaviour is organized into patterns of behaviour that become habits, routines and roles that make up much of our day)
1c) Performance Capacity (the physical and mental abilities a person has and their experiences while undertaking an activity or occupation)
describe the integrated construct ‘dimension of doing’
- occupational participation: participating in work, play or activities of daily living
- occupational performance: doing the occupation
- occupational skills: skills required to perform the occupation (e.g. motor skills, process skills, skills for interacting with others)
describe the integrated construct ‘environment’
- the environment provides opportunities, resources but also demands constraints
- the impact of the environment will be different for each individual
- consider the:
~ physical environment (non-human): natural and man-made
~ social environment (human): e.g. groups, norms, support, distraction, sigma
~ historical environment - consider the relationship between the person and environment
describe the integrated construct ‘occupational adaption’
occupational adaption: construction of a positive occupational identity and achieving occupational competence over time in the context of one’s environment
2 elements:
- occupational identity: means of self definition and a blueprint for ongoing action
- occupational competence: putting the identity into action in an ongoing way
