L10 - Factors Affecting Choice Of Statistical Tests Flashcards
What are descriptive statistics?
- Summaries of data
- Can indicate what statistical analysis reveals
What are the three types of Levels of Measurement?
- Nominal: categorical - either one or the other, no overlap
- Ordinal: rank order from lowest to highest, can have measurements of unequal intervals
- Interval: data has fixed and even intervals, units of data are fixed and have the same distance throughout the range.
What are the non-parametric tests? (5)
- Chi-squared
- Spearman’s Rho
- Mann Whitney
- Wilcoxon
- Sign Tested
What are the parametric tests? (3)
- Pearson’s R
- Related T-Test
- Unrelated T-Test
Why are Parametric tests better?
- More robust + powerful
- Rely on actual data rather than rank order of data
- More likely to detect of data is significant
What three factors mean a parametric test can be conducted?
- Interval level of measurement
- Normal distribution
- Variance of data
How do you decide which test you should use?
- Does the research involve a correlation, test of difference, or an association
- Which research design is being used
- Which level of measurement is being used?
What is the Acronym for the tests
Carrots Should Come
Mashed With Swede
Under Roast Potatoes
What is the table heading?
