What are resources?
A resource is something (a material/object) that is helpful and is sometimes considered essential
Renewable
A resource that can be used more than once
Non-renewable
A resource that can only be used once
Recyclable
A resource that can be converted into something else and used again
Flow
A resource that is always there but can only be used when it occurs and can’t be controlled by humans
What is resource security?
Resource security is knowing that there are enough resources for future generations and in the present. We need to make sure that we use resources at a sustainable rate while enjoying the world around us.
What will happen over the next 35 years in terms of food resources?
The growing population will require more food than has ever been produced in human history
What are 3 of the main issues with agriculture?
It uses 70% of all fresh water, provides approximately 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions and can lead to biodiversity loss and worse soil
How many people in the world are under-nourished?
Approximately 795 million
How many meals does the average household throw away a week?
6 meals
What foods are there more demand for?
Resource intensive products such as meat and dairy
