What is a network?
A group of computers that are linked together.
What is a server?
A very powerful computer that provides programs and storage space for other computers.
Why are networks beneficial?
Software, storage, peripherals and processing power can be shared.
What is the main advantage of a network?
The resources, such as printers, are shared so multiple computers can print something on the same computer.
What is the purpose of NIC?
To help the computer function as part of a network.
What does NIC stand for?
Network Interface Card.
Why does NIC have a port?
In order for a network cable to be connected.
What replacement is there for NIC?
Wireless network cards or wireless USB adapters.
What is the difference between a wireless network card and an NIC?
A wireless network card has a transmitter/receiver for sending signals via radio waves.
Why are wireless networks popular?
They allow the user more freedom, such as working outside.
What does MAC stand for?
Media Access Control.
What should each station have?
A unique address on that network.
What does IP stand for?
Internet Protocol.
What are packets?
They are small parts of data that the computer breaks down.
What is the handshake process?
When two devices initiate communications e.g. one device sending a message to another device.
