Natural Approach
Communicative approach that: Uses comprehensible input; Stresses low affective filter and uses meaningful, authentic communication/activities.
Memorization
Memorization is the process of establishing information in memory. Relying on it for acquiring language skills will not give productive results.
Categorization
Categorization is the act of sorting and organizing objects/things into different groups or categories by like attributes. Categorization is a critical foundational skill to work on with your verbal and non-verbal students for them to begin to understand similarities and differences.
Generalization
A generalization is a statement made about a group of people or things. Some generalizations are valid, while others aren’t.
Metacognition
It simply refers to an awareness or understanding of one’s own thought process in order to learn more successfully.
First and second language effect
It has been found that the use of first language in the second-language classroom helps students make connections with their existing knowledge of the mother tongue, facilitating the process of understanding.
Idiomatic expressions
An idiom is defined as “a phrase or an expression that has a figurative, or sometimes literal, meaning”
Example: raining cats and dogs
First language interference
Interference from a student’s native language is mostly in the form of pronunciation and sentence structure errors. Pronunciation mistakes are because spoken sounds or phonemes differ from language to language
