What are normal conditions?
A
Normally, trade winds and currents flow westward. Warm water moves in this direction. Low pressure is felt at Australia, and high pressure at South America.
2

What are El-Niño conditions?
A
Trade winds and currents are moving eastward, as is warm water. Australia experiences a dry climate, due to high pressure and absence of winds.
3

A
- Extreme normal:
Trade winds, which are greater than normal, are moving westward. Exaggeration of the normal conditions make South America more dry than typical.
