  1. Choosing books to read aloud that focus on sounds, rhyming and alliteration (identical consonant sounds, eg. Alice’s aunt ate apples.
  2. Have children make up verses of words or songs by changing the beginning sounds of words.
  3. Play games with children to isolate the beginning sounds in familiar words, and generate rhyming words.
