krebs cycle Flashcards

1
Q

what happens in the krebs cycle ?

A

acetyl co enzyme A combines with a 4c compound to form a 6c compound. the co enzyme A is regenerated in the process

6 carbon molecule is dehydrogenated reducing 2 molecules of NAD

it is also decarboxylated to form a 5 carbon molecule and produce CO2 as a waste product

the 5 c molecule is dehydrogenated making reduced NAD and reduced FAD. it is also decarboxylated to reform the 4 carbon molecule which can then join with more acetyl coenzyme A and repeat the cycle
