What is the AAA?
Agricultural Adjustment Administration, paid farmers to produce less crops so prices would rise
What is the CCC?
Civilian Conservation Corps, gave jobs to single men under 25 working in the country living in government camps. They sent the money they earned back to their families
What is the PWA?
Public Works Administration, created jobs to build public works of real lasting value, built 70% of schools and 35% of hospitals
What is the CWA?
Civilian Works Administration, was designed to give as many short term jobs as possible over the winter of 1933-34
What is the FERA?
Federal Emergency Relief Administration, meeting the need of the poor, blankets, soup kitchens and nurcery
What is the NIRA?
National Industrial Recovery Act, improved working conditions, outlawed child labour and set fair wages
Who was Huey Long?
Governor of Louisiana, won by bribing and intimidating people. At first supportive but then attacked it for not doing enough
Who was Father Charles Coughlin?
Broadcast his ideas on the radio to 40 million Americans, vicious attacks. Set up national union for social justice which attracted millions, ideas were confused
Who was Dr Francis Townsend?
He said everyone over the age of 60 should receive a pension of $200 a month if the retire and spend the money wishing the month
