KOG: ISSUES Flashcards
What is the issue with the idea that all people have an innate knowledge of God?
Untestable, it is simply not possible to know whether all people have knowledge of God.
What does having an innate sense of God fail to acknowledge?
The Christian teaching that the fall has affected the image of God and so he cannot be known through will, reason or desire.
What is the only rational response to revelation of God?
Only God’s revelation in Christ can provide relational knowledge which is possible through faith.
What is the issue with the fall and an innate knowledge of God?
Before the Fall there was innate knowledge but not after.
How does natural theology affect the idea that God can be known from creation?
The God who redeems the world is very different from the God of the philosophers and natural theology.
How can God not be known from creation?
God is far greater than any human mind can conceive, so humans are capable of seeing God’s order in creation but not knowing him.
What is the issue with natural theology and the corruption of human nature?
Any form of natural theology does not provide any knowledge or point of contact with God.
How is God reflected through creation?
If God is the creator of the world, as set out in Genesis 1, then creation reflects his will and so he can be known.
What do all humans posses?
An innate faculty to know God.
What are human reason and imagination capable of doing?
Drawing analogies between the natural world and the divine.
What do all humans desire? What does this come from?
Some form of redemption, grace or deeper meaning, which comes from this sense of the divine.
What are humans naturally disposed towards?
Great poetry and art because through these media the deeper imagination senses a deeper truth which is God.
What does Natural Law suggest that supports an innate knowledge of God?
All humans have a basic sense of what is just or unjust.
