Knee Test Flashcards
Knee fully extended; apply downward pressure to patella.
Tests for effusion
(+) patella bouncing back to its original position
Ballotment Test
Milk superior & inferior of patella
Tests for intracapsular swelling
(+) fluid transferred to medial side
Milking/Sweep Test
Tests laxity or tightness of retinacula
Should move 1/2 of patella’s width; less than that is hypomobility & more than that is hypermobility
Patellar Medial/lateral glides
Tilt on medial & lateral side of patella
Tests tension in lateral retinaculum, lateral capsule, ITB, Vastus lateral tendon
(+) 0-15 degrees
Medial/Lateral tilt Test
Tests for mal-tracking
Sit w/ leg over edge of table; passively extend, look @ patella & perform standing w/ eyes for maltracking
Patellofemoral Tracking
(+) increased anterior translation/lack of end point
Put thumbs on joint line & pull tibia anteriorly
straight instability
Anterior Drawer Test
Test like anterior drawer but place foot in internal rotation (closed pack)
Rotary Instability
(+) no end feel
Sclocham’s
Designed for lateral anterior corner( ACL,ITB,post. lateral capsule, arcuate ligament)
Push up & valgus stress on the knee then let go
Internal rotate knee
(+) clunk back down
Lateral Pivot Shift
Posterior Drawer, Huston’s , Posterior Sag, Godfrey’s, Recurvatum
PCL Tests
Valgus Stress Test
MCL Test
Lay Prone w/ knee over the edge. Hold on to tibia adding downward pressure.
(+) increased amount of anterior tibial translation or lack of firm end feel
Lachman’s Test
Lachman’s, anterior drawer, Sclocham’s, lateral pivot shift
ACL Tests
Varus Stress Test
LCL Test
Ober, & Noble compression test
ITB Tests
McMurray (post medial), Appley’s Compression/distraction ( post medial), Bounce Home ( anterior), Steinman ( anterior)
Meniscus Test
