Valgus stress
if patient has suspected LCL sprain what test do you use?
Varus test
if patient has suspected ACL sprain what tests do you use?
anterior drawer test
Lachmans
Pivot shift
if patient has suspected PCL strain what test do you use?
posterior drawer test
active quadricep
posterior sag test
if patient has suspected meniscal injury what test do you use?
Thessaly
Mcmurrays
Apleys compression
patient with suspected patellar dislocation or subluxation you use what test?
(dynamic) patellar apprehension test
apley’s distraction test
patient in prone
knee in flexion
put your own knee on the back of patient’s thigh
wrap both hands around ankle above the feet
anterior drawer test
patient in supine 40º hip flexion 90º knee flexion foot on plinth identify knee joint line keep thumbs on the joint line either side of the patellar tendon. slowly or quickly jerk tibia forward
lachman’s test
patient in supine place your thigh beneath the knee stabilise anterior of femur w/ 1 hand grasp medial aspect of tibia w/ other hand pull tibia forward
pivot shift test
patient in supine
~45º hip flexion + knee ext
tibia IR w/hand on heel + valgus stress
slow knee flex w/ valgus + IR
posterior sag test
Patient in supine. Hip flexed ~40º, knee flexed ~90º, foot on plinth. Therapist observes the knee from a lateral perspective.
active quad test
Same start position as for posterior sag.
Ask the patient to contract their quads.
Test is positive if there is an anterior translation of the tibia.
posterior drawer test
patient in supine
40º hip flexion
90º knee flexion
foot on plinth
identify knee joint line
keep thumbs on the joint line either side of the patellar tendon.
slowly or quickly jerk tibia backward - toward patient’s face
thessaly test
patient standing
knee flexed 20º
hold tester for balance
rotate femur on internally and externally
using your hold on the patient to assist the twisting motion
will feel pain on medial or lateral joint line
Mcmurrays test for lateral meniscus
Patient supine, palpate joint line w/ thumb and index finger of one hand hold tibia distally w/ other hand full knee flexion tibia in IR + varus stress
