Knee (slide 26 on)-exam 2 Flashcards
Baker’s cyst=
-location?
Baker’s cyst= mass in posterior knee
-cyst b/w the medial head of gastrocnemius and semimembranosus tendon
Medial Collateral Ligament Injuries=
Side View: Note the anterior vertical and posterior oblique components of the MCL and their relation to the Pes Anserinus and Semimembranosis tendon
Pellegrini-Steida “Disease” occurs 2/2:
secondary to chronic tear of MCL at Femoral insertion
Lateral Supporting Structures of the knee:
Blue: Lateral Collateral Ligament and Biceps Tendon Red: Iliotibial Band Green: Popliteus tendon Orange: Arcuate Ligament Black: Popliteus muscle and tendon
Major lateral supporting structure= iliotibial band
Lateral collateral ligament has an insertion on the lateral femoral condyle and proximal condyle of the fibula
Hyperextension-Dislocation Injury
Shows a combination of Anterior and Posterior Cruciate Ligament tears.
-Often an concommitant lateral collateral ligament tear is present.
ACL/MEDIAL MENISCUS REPAIR:
-why do we repair the meniscus?
Tears of the outer meniscus can heal due to good circulation, but inner meniscus tears don’t heal as well (poor vasculature) so that portion of the meniscus is either removed , or surgically fixed
-can be repaired w/ sutures, tacks, or torn meniscus can be surgically removed.
