Q

What is recurrent patellar subluxation?

A
  • Developmental abnormality - tight lateral retinaculum
  • Knee may give way
  • Medial pain
  • More common in girls and with valgus knees
  • If patella dislocation happens once, more likely to happen again

16
Q

How do you diagnose PCL tear?

A

Positive posterior draw test

17
Q

How do you treat PCL tear?

A
  • Conservative
  • Reconstruction less preferred
18
Q

What is the most common reason for knee arthroscopy?

A

Meniscal (semilunar) cartilage tear

19
Q

How does a meniscal tear present?

A
  • Limited extension
  • Patient can only tiptoe (locked knee)
20
Q

What is the MOI of a medial meniscal tear?

A

Follows twist to flexed knee

21
Q

What is the MOI of a lateral meniscal tear?

A

Adduction + internal rotation

22
Q

How do you diagnose ACL tear?

A

Positive draw sign

23
Q

What are the two key signs of a meniscal tear?

A
  • Tender joint line
  • Positive McMurray’s test
24
Q

How do you treat a meniscal tear?

A
  • Conservative if small asymptomatic tear
  • Arthroscopy
  • Surgery - aims to preserve meniscus
25
Q

What are indications for knee arthroscopy in a meniscal tear?

A
  • Locked knee
  • Cysts
  • Persisting symptoms after injury
26
Q

What is the typical knee injury triad?

A

ACL + MCL + medial meniscus tear
- Following valgus (lateral) stress with rotation of the knee

27
Q

What are the symptoms of recurrent patellar subluxation?

A
  • Increased lateral patellar movement
  • Pain and reflex contraction of quadriceps
28
Q

How do you manage recurrent patellar subluxation?

A

May need surgery to strengthen medial expansion
