Knee History MC Flashcards
Orthoarthirtis in the Knee presents in
a) b)
> 65
athletes who place knee’s articular cartilage under force
How is Osteoarthritis confirmed?
X-ray
Osgood-Schlatter disease is
tibial tubercle apophysis-bony outgrowth
apophysis
is a normal bony outgrowth that arises from separate ossification center and fuses with the bone in course of time
Osgood-Schlatter more common in BOYS/GIRLS ? Ages?
Boys ages 9-14 during growth spurt …
What activities in children promote the OSGOOD-SCHLATTER?
running, jumping
Why does the Osgood-Schlatter evolve? What other ligaments are involved?
patella ligament moving away from tibial tuberosity with the activities of running, jumping in children causes the reaction of bone to grow in this area.
What MOI are involved in Knee injury?
VARUS, VALGUS Force, Hyperextension, Flexion w/posterior translation, Torsion inj.
VARUS Force involves
LCL => Lateral Collateral Ligament
w/posterior lateral capsule, PCL
Flexion with Posterior Translation
PCL => Posterior Cruciate Ligament
VALGUS Force involved
MCL => Medial Collateral Ligament
w/posterior medial capsule, medial meniscus, and anterior cruciate
Terrible TRIAD
MCL (w/posterior medial capsule), Medial Meniscus, Anterior Cruciate
Hyperextension
ACL often also associated w/Meniscal Tear
Torsion injury (weight bearing)
Medial meniscal Tear (medial more d/t wt bearing => wears most the compressive forces)
What movements can tear the Meniscus?
pivoting, twisting
