Ankle/Foot Special Testing Flashcards
Neutral Talus position (weight bearing)
pt rotating trunk produces lateral and medial rotation of the tibia and uses the taller head to bulge from one side to another - neutral is no bulge on either side
Anterior Drawer Test of the Ankle
Pt sits on table - knee flexion 90 degrees
Foot plantar flexion 20 degrees - draw talus forward in the ankle mortise
Where does the dimple appear with the Anterior Drawer Test?
GB40
Pain @ GB40 could mean
Anterio talo-fibular ligament injury
Practitioner feels a clunk with the Anterior Drawer Test this happens when the
talus moves too far anterior out of its mortise
With the anterior talofibular ligament tear, the lateral portion of the talus will
translate forward resulting in anterolateral rotational instability
If the talus moves forward on both sides of the foot then the medial _______ along with ______ are torn.
deltoid ligament
along with other structures
What positioning of the foot will test for calcaneofibular ligament as well as the anterior talofibular ligament?
inversion and dorsiflexion
External Rotation Test
Position the patient seated and the knee flexed to 90 degrees. Passively dorsiflex and evert the patient’s foot noting pain.
Positive External Rotation Test would indicate
tibiofibular ligament sprain
High Ankle Sprain refers to this ligament
tibiofibular ligament
The pain in the tibiofibular ligament area can also refer to
interosseous membran tear
Morton’s test
squeeze metatarsal heads together
a positive Morton’s test indicates
fracture of metatarsal heads
neuroma
