What is the typical presentation and management of a patella dislocation?

A

It typically dislocates laterally from a twisting movement
Causes medial knee pain
Can be reduced with medial pressure and extending the knee
Then requires imaging to check for any fractures, immobilisation in cast and subsequent physio to strengthen quadriceps

A

Caused by valgus stress on the knee while foot planted
Causes pain, tenderness and effusion over medial knee
Treated with rest and analgesia then firm support

What is the presentation and treatment of an anterior cruciate ligament injury?

A

typically a twisting movement with foot fixed on ground, cannot continue to play
Causes effusion, haemarthrosis, positive draw sign
Treatment:
-3 weeks rest and physiotherapy - then autologous ligament reconstruction
