Internal rotation
What are the main causes of hip pain?
OA Fracure Trochanteric bursitis Necrosis Perthes disease (avascular necrosis of femoral head in 3-11 years)
Why should you always examine the hip in a child complaining of knee pain?
Because it could be referred pain from the hip, could be perthes disease or transient synovitis of the hip
What is the presentation of transient syndovitis of the hip?
This is a diagnosis of exclusion and presents in 4-10 year olds and is pain at extremes of movement preceded by a viral illness
What is perthes disease?
This is avascular necrosis of the femoral head that occurs in 3-11 year olds. No known reason and the healing process distorts the bone and causes pain or a limp
Surgery may be indicated in poor disease
What is slipped upper femoral epiphysis?
This happens in 10-16 year lds and there is displacement through the growth plate
