Attachments of Rectus Femoris
O: straight head – AIIS
Reflected head – above the acetabulum
I: base of patella then to Tibial tuberosity
Attachments of Vastus medialis
O: lower intertrochanteric line, lower part of greater trochanter, upper medial linea aspera , upper medial supracondylar line
I: medial border of patella
Attachments of Vastus Lateralis
O: upper intertrochanteric line, lower part of greater trochanter, lateral gluteal tuberosity, and upper lateral linea aspera
I: base and lateral border of patella
Attachments of biceps femoris
O: long head= lower medial facet of ischial tuberosity.
Short head= lower half of linea aspera of femur
I: head of fibular
Attachments of Semitendonosus
O: lower medial facet of ischial tuberosity.
I: upper medial tibia behind gracilis and sartorius
Attachments of semimembranosus
O: upper lateral facet of ischial tuberosity
I: posteromedial surface of medial tibial condyle
Nerve supply to quads
Femoral nerve - L2, L3, L4
Nerve supply to hamstrings
Sciatic Nerve L5, S1, S2
Action of biceps femoris
hip extension, knee flexion, lateral rotation
Action of semimembranosus and semitendonosus
hip extension, knee flexion and medial rotation
Action of Quads
Hip flexion and knee extension
