Knee Flashcards
Biomechanics MCL
blends with connective tissue of the knee joint capsule and medial meniscus
Biomechanics LCL
DOES NOT attach to capsule or lateral meniscus, extra-articular structure
ACL becomes more taut in knee ______
flexion
PCL becomes more taut in knee ______
extension
In external rotation:
collateral ligaments are _____
cruciate ligaments are ______
collateral ligaments are taught
cruciate ligaments are lax
In internal rotation:
collateral ligaments are _____
cruciate ligaments are ______
collateral ligaments are lax
cruciate ligaments are taught
90 degrees of flexion:
collateral ligaments are _____
cruciate ligaments are ______
both are lax
30deg- 5deg knee extension
lateral femoral condyle and lateral meniscus become more congruent, glide increases on medial side
Last 5 deg knee extension
Tibial ER
Femur IR
Patellar contact knee at 0deg
no contac
Patellar contact knee at 15-20 deg
inferior pole
Patellar contact knee at 45 deg
middle pole
Patellar contact knee at 90 deg
all facets
Patellar contact knee at 135 deg
odd facet and lateral aspect
S/S meniscus injury
lateral or medial joint line pain effusion sensation of joint crepitus or popping locking instability in ambulation limited knee ROM
Education- meniscus injury
Wk 1- 70 deg ROM, 20% wB
Wk 5- 130 deg ROM, FWB
Wk 6- unloaded flexion
Wk 7- loaded flexion
Meniscus repair- Early and Immediate Exercises Precautions
- leg press- 8wks, 0- 60 deg
- stationary bike- seat as high as possible to limit flexion
- squat- no knee flex > 45 deg (4wks) or > 60-70 deg (8wks)
- gradual increase in knee flexion
Meniscus repair- Advanced Rehab
- no deep squat, deep lunges, twisting, or pivoting until 4-6mos
- no jogging until 5-6mos
Classification- ligament injuries
1st- minimal damage, no loss of function
2nd- some torn, functional compromise
3rd- complete rupture, loss of function
PFPS causes
quadriceps weakness weakness VMO Tight IT band Tight hamstrings Weak or tight hip muscles (adductors, abductors, ERs) Tight calf muscles
Open Kinetic Chain- the lowest PJRF is at ___________
40-90 deg flexion
Closed Kinetic Chain- the lowest PJRF is at ________
0-16 deg (initially)
0-30 deg (progressed)
