Hip extensor/rotator muscle strain
Causes/MOI OA
aging process joint trauma repetitive abnormal stress obesity systemic diseases- RA
Rheumatology guideliness for OA
- Hip pain AND hip IR < 15 deg
OR - Hip pain AND hip IR > 15 deg, pain hip IR, morning stiffness > 60min, age > 50
Kellgren Scale
1- possible osteophytes, doubtful narrowing of space
2- definite osteophytes, definite narrowing of joint space
3- moderate multiple osteophytes, narrowing, some sclerosis, possible contour deformity
4- large osteophytes, severe sclerosis, narrowing, definite deformity
Tests for labral tear
Faber Scour Resisted SLR Flex-Add-IR Femoral-Acetabular Impingement Test
Objective GTPS
palpation- tender over lateral hip
pain provoked with: resisted hip AB and IR, tightness ITB, trendelenburg’s
Hip Muscular Strain- symptoms (pull or tear)
pain over injured muscle, increased pain with muscle contraction, swelling, loss of strength in muscle
Hamstrings- high speed movements (running)
Quads- soccer, rugby, football (kicking, jumping, running)
Adductors- soccer and hocker (kicking, change in direction)
MOI hip muscular strain
stretched muscle contracts suddenly overstretching fall or direct blow to muscle overuse inadequate warm up lack of flexibility poor posture
MOI hip muscular strain
stretched muscle contracts suddenly overstretching fall or direct blow to muscle overuse inadequate warm up lack of flexibility poor posture
Classification hip muscular strain
1- minimal loss muscle strength
2- compromise in strength, not complete loss in function
3- complete loss of strength
