Knee Flashcards
What type of joint is knee
Synovial Hinge Joint
Identify the four ligaments of knee
Fibular Collateral
Medial Meniscus
Anterior Cruciate
Posterior Cruciate
The fibular or lateral collateral ligament extends ffrom
lateral epicondyle of the femur to the lateral surface of the head of the fibula.
The tendon of popliteal muscles passes
deep to the LCL, separating it from the lateral meniscus.
The tibial, or medial collateral ligament (MCL) extends from
the medial epicondyle of the femur to the medial surface of the tibia, with an attachment to the superior epicondyle of the tibia.
At its midpoint the MCL is attached onto
the medial meniscus of the knee
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) prevents the femur from sliding
posterior on the tibia.
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) prevents the femur from sliding
anterior on tibia
What are the main functions of the menisci?
Increase Stability and Absorb Shock and Provide lubrication/nutrition to knee joint.
Which meniscus firmly adheres to the deep surface of the tibial or medial collateral ligament?
The medial meniscus
The patella is an anchor point for
quadrates femurs tendon superiorly and patellar ligament inferiorly
Which movement of the knee causes the patella to move?
flexion
Which bursa communicates with the articular cavity of the knee joint?
Suprapatellar Bursa
What is housemaid’s knee (pre-patellar bursitis)?
Inflammation of Bursa in front of kneecap
Muscles involved in knee flexion
Hamstrings, Gracilis, Sartorius and Popliteus
