KK8-10 & KK11-12: Development of an innovative solution & Testing and evaluating innovative solutions Flashcards
Define ‘Solution’
A solution involves formulating a way to solve a problem.
Define ‘Need’
A need is something essential to a solution for the user to complete the task.
Define ‘Opportunity’
An opportunity occurs when circumstances or factors present open up a new solution to be developed.
Define ‘Innovative Solution’ and the 4 steps to devise one.
An innovative solution is a unique solution that was developed individually through creative problem solving. It is devised by 4 steps:
1. Identify a need or opportunity
2. Analyse the problem
3. Come up with more than one solution
4. Pick the best solution
What 4 design tools can be used to represent both the appearance and functionality of the solution?
The 4 design tools:
- Layout and mock-up diagrams
- Pseudocode
- Site Maps
- Storyboards
What does validation check and not check?
Validation checks that input data are reasonable and complete, and it CANNOT check if inputs are accurate.
How does validation differ from testing?
Validation involves checking if the input data is complete and reasonable, whilst testing involves making sure the solution works as intended or not.
What are the 5 column headings of a testing table?
The 5 column headings for a testing table:
1. What was tested
2. How it was tested
3. Expected results
4. Actual results
5. How it was fixed (if relevant)
What is the purpose of ‘Evaluation?’
The purpose of evaluation is to check how well the solution is satisfying the needs of the user for which it was originally created.
What two things are measured during evaluation?
The two things:
- Efficiency (Doing things right, i.e. productivity, profitability and labour requirements)
- Effectiveness (Doing the right things, i.e. completeness, readability, attractiveness, accuracy and etc.)
What are the three types of evaluation methods?
Three types:
1. Proof of concept - A demonstration showing that an idea of concept is feasible, possible, or viable.
2. Prototype - A model or solution with limited functionality
3. Product - A complete solution with full functionality
What are the tasks involved in an evaluation strategy, and explain objective and subjective results
The tasks involved in an evaluation strategy are assigning evaluation criterion to a corresponding evaluation method, which makes objective and subjective results obtainable.
- Objective results - Measurable, solid facts
- Subjective results - Opinions & surveys, feelings
