Q

Why, as Chagnon discovered, do the Yanomami marry their cross cousins? (3)

A

To unite families together by giving their daughters, their family name.

For example if a boy (smith) married his fathers sisters daughter (Jones) - as her mother married into that name - jones’s name would become smith meaning she would no longer be an outsider but on of their family again.

Or if smith married his mothers brothers daughter (Jones), she would become a smith again.
