He chose to live in a simple apartment rather than the archbishop’s palace and he increased the number of priests working with the poor.

In 2014 he played a major role in restoring relations between the US and Cuba and he uses his weekly addresses to pray for peace.
How does the pope show reconsiliation
He washes the feet of prisoners on Maundy Thursday and he has welcomed non-catholics and asked them to pray for him, kneeling down in their presence.

How are kingdom values shown in the Priesthood
-Priest makes a vow of celibacy, showing complete dedication to God.
-A priests life is based around serving others.
-Priests take a vow of obedience to God.

-Love unites a family.
-Parents show kingdom values by being loving, forgiving, fair etc.
-Parents teach their children kingdom values, as a result spreading the kingdom of God.

-Life centres around prayers, giving a sense of peace.
-Apostolic monks and nuns show love through serving others
-Monks and nuns take vows of poverty, obedience and celibacy, showing dedication to kingdom values.
What is a pilgrimage
A journey to a religious place with a religious purpose

Christians believe that life is a pilgrimage-a journey to heaven:
-We will meet God when we die
-Our daily actions help us progress on our journey.
-The Catholic Church is the “pilgrim people of God”

Why do Catholic pilgrim to Jersualem
It is the city where Jesus died, Catholics can visit Jesus’ tomb and Via Dolorosa which is the street Jesus carried the cross through and Catholics can share the suffering Jesus went through.

It is an important place as it is the centre of Catholic faith, it is where St Peter died and the Vatican is where the pope lives.

It is a town where a girl called Bernadette saw visions of Mary and the water springs which Bernadette found through Mary’s guidance are believed to have special healing powers.

Showing God’s love through good actions (usually abroad via education, health care etc.)

To make the church more relevant to the modern world.

-Translated to the word of God
-Deals with the importance and the interpretation of the Bible
-Stresses that the Bible should be taken seriously as the word of God but some of it shouldn’t be read in a literal way.

-Catholics can hear mass in their own language
-Deals with the liturgy and church service.
-Emphasises that people should be able to take a full part in the worship of God.

Holy-The Catholic Church is guided by the Holy Spirit
Catholic-Means universal. Catholic beliefs are held by Catholics worldwide.
Apostolic-Catholic Church teachings are built on the teachings of the 12 apostles. Their successors (Bishops) guide the church today.
Why is Mary so important to Catholics
She is believed to be the perfect disciple.
What is the magnificat
A prayer said by Mary after she became pregnant with Jesus (when she visited her cousin, Elizabeth)
What is controversial about the magnificat
A minority of Christians believe it encourages people to rebel against the government.

-Recognises that she is only special because of what God has done for her.

She is aware that God has shown his love for all people by doing great things for her and humanity. Her whole prayer praises God for this.

She trusted God to protect her as she could have been killed for alleged adultery.

-Mary willingly accepted the role of mother of Jesus.
-Her praise of God in the magnificat shows her readiness to follow God’s will.

To provide emergency aid but they also aim to help the people become more self-reliant by providing long term aid.

Tackling poverty in all its forms by giving practical help to those in need.
