A

Are recognized allied health professionals in BC and serve as part of interdisciplinary healthcare teams in public and private healthcare facilities, and also work independently in the community to support client needs
Are unregulated.
Work along-side other health professionals
Provide quality service when and where it is needed and can frequently serve to improve the transition from clinic/facility-based treatment to independent, home, or community self-care environments.

What does it mean to be a regulated health professional?

A

Pass national and/or provincial entry-to-practice exam(s) and be familiar with the legal professional and ethical practice of their profession.
Be registered with their regulatory college and renew registration annually.
Be a college registrant to use certain protected professional titles.
Comply with college bylaws.
Adhere to the scope of practice they can undertake within their professional limits.
Meet quality assurance requirements.
Meet professional standards of practice.
Be subject to complaints and discipline process if standards are not met.
Undertake a criminal record check every five years.

What is a functional movement screen (FMS)?

A

Screen individuals for risk of injury, a dysfunction or performance-limiting movement pattern.
Identify imbalances in mobility and stability during seven fundamental movement patterns.
Individuals who score less than 14 points on the FMS screen have greater odd of sustaining injury.
The FMS consists of 7 movement patterns which require mobility and stability.
-the 7 movements are scored from 0-3 points with sum creating a score ranging from 0-21 points
-the 7 movements include deep squat, hurdle step, in-line lunge, active straight-leg raise, trunk stability push-up, rotary stability, and shoulder mobility.

We provide worker safety education and injury prevention training on posture related to lifting, bending, carrying sitting, and standing.
