What are the two types of motion
?
translation and rotation
Rotation
movement of body about an axis
Translation
Rectilinear motion (straight line) and Curvilinear motion (curved line)
Active movements
movement produced by the person’s own muscles. e.g flexing an arm over the head
Passive movement
in which a part of your body can move when someone or something is creating the movement e.g., resistance of a stretched ligament
Anterior
Toward the front of the body
Posterior
toward the back of the body
Midline
an imaginary line that courses vertically through the center of the body
Medial
Toward the midline of the body
Lateral
Away from the midline of the body
Superior
Above, towards the head
Inferior
below, toward the feet
Proximal
Closer to, toward the torso
Distal
Away from the torso
Cephalad
Toward the head
