Kines-The Wrist Flashcards

1
Q

What comprises the wrist joint?

A

Bones- distal ends of the radius and ulna, 8 carpal bones, and the proximal portions of the 5 metacarpal bones.
Joints- the radiocarpal joint, midcarpal joint, carometacarpal
Ligaments- radial collateral ligament, ulnar collateral ligament, palmar radiocarpal ligament, dorsal radiocarpal ligament, joint capsule, articular disk, and palmar fascia.

Q

What motions exist in the radiocarpal joint?

A

It is a biaxial joint that allows flexion, extension, radial deviation and ulnar deviation. The combination of all 4 of these motions is called circumduction. There is no rotation.
