Kines-The Wrist Flashcards
What comprises the wrist joint?
Bones- distal ends of the radius and ulna, 8 carpal bones, and the proximal portions of the 5 metacarpal bones.
Joints- the radiocarpal joint, midcarpal joint, carometacarpal
Ligaments- radial collateral ligament, ulnar collateral ligament, palmar radiocarpal ligament, dorsal radiocarpal ligament, joint capsule, articular disk, and palmar fascia.
What are the 8 carpal bones?
Sally left the party to take carol home.
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate
What kind of joint is the radiocarpal joint?
as a synovial joint, it is classified as a condyloid joint.
What are the articulations present in the radiocarpal joint?
The concave distal end of the radius and the articular disk articulate with the convex scaphoid, lunate, and triquetrium.
What motions exist in the radiocarpal joint?
It is a biaxial joint that allows flexion, extension, radial deviation and ulnar deviation. The combination of all 4 of these motions is called circumduction. There is no rotation.
What comprises the midcarpal joint?
Occurs between the two rows of carpal bones.
What type of joint is the midcarpal joint?
Plane joint- irregular shape. It is a nonaxial joint that allows gliding motion.
What comprises the carpometacarpal joints?
They occur between the distal row of carpal bones and the proximal end of the metacarpal bones.
What are the bony landmarks for the wrist?
styloid process, hook of hamate, medial epicondyle, lateral epicondyle, supracondylar ridge
What are the muscles of the wrist?
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris, Flexor Carpi Radialis, Palmaris Longus, Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus, Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis, Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
What is the muscle innervation for a posterior muscle?
radial nerve
What is the muscle innervation for an anterior muscle?
median nerve
What is the muscle innvervation of an ulnar side muscle?
ulnar nerve.
