What to take into account when receiving gifts?
Maintain professional integrity and development, don’t want a conflict of interest, if accepted only small gifts of monetary value
What are some limitations to the code of ethics? (4)
Application to any one setting/ situation is limited
Profession change rapidly (what is agreed upon isn’t necessarily what is ethical)
Focus too much on minor issues
Not recipe for responsible behaviour (must use value-judgement)
What are ethics good for?
Protecting rights, giving guidance, preserving trust, etc.
Ethical dilemma?
A situation that requires ethical action but the professional is required to perform 2+ mutually exclusive actions. Choice not to act is a choice.
What are the 5 virtues?
Compassion, Discernment, Trustworthiness, Integrity (true to yourself) , and Conscientiousness (doing what you believe is right)
What are the common ethical principles? (6)
Autonomy, non-malificence, beneficience, justice, fidelity, veracity
