Q

Role of nephrons in osmoregulation to form glomerular filtrate

A

Blood enters kidney through renal artery which branches to arterioles which splits into glomerulus - bundle of capillaries looped around Bowman capsule where ultrafilteration occurs. Afferent takes blood to glomerulus, efferent takes blood away from glomerulus. Afferent large so more hydrostatic pressure squeezes water/minerals out capillary forming glomerulus filtrate in Bowman capsule. Protein / large cant pass through so stay in blood. Podocytes have gaps allowing filtrate to pass through.

Q

Reabsorption of glucose and water by PCT

A

PCT 85% content re absorbed. PCT have microvilli for large SA to reabsorb usefull subatnce from filtrate . PCT many mitochondria allows glucose to be acitvely transported with ATP. Water enters blood by osmosis.
