Homeostasis Flashcards
What is homeostasis and the importance of it
Maintains constant internal environment, tissue fluid provide nutrient. Importance as maintains temperature/ph which affect enzyme. Important to control water potential of blood as it can burst/shrink cells to do so maintain glucose so if glucose too high water potential decreases cell shrinks.
Control mechanism
Optimum, receptor, coordinator, effector, feedback mechanism- receptor responds to stimulus
What is positive feedback
What is Negative feedback
Effectors respond to further increase level from normal e.g hypothermia - heat lost rapidly than produced so brain stops so stop shaking so temperature falls more.
Restore system to optimum level, homeostasis has multiple negative so greater degree of control
