Kidney Injury Flashcards
Pre-renal causes of AKI
Reduced BP, Reduced CO, NSAIDs
Define AKI
Decrease in GFR in less than 2 weeks
Intrinsic causes of AKI
Glomerular disease, Acute tubular necrosis, Interstitial nephritis, Nephrotoxins, Arteriolar disease
Post renal causes of AKI
Obstruction in urine outflow (stones, tumours), Anticholinergic drugs
Treatment of AKI
Treat cause
Stop Nephrotoxins drugs, re-establish urine output
Define chronic kidney injury
Irreversible and progressive reduction in GFR
Causes of chronic kidney injury
Infection, Vascular disease, Genetic disease, Hypertension, Obstruction, Systemic disease
Management of chronic kidney injury
Weight loss, Smoking cessation, Increase exercise
Slow progression by reducing BP
Describe features of haemodialysis
3 times a week
At specialist centre
For 25 years
Describe features of peritoneal dialysis
Everyday
At home
Risk of peritonitis
