Keywords - cell structure Flashcards
Magnification
degree to which the size of an image is larger than the image itself
Resolution
minimum distance apart two objects can be for them to appear as separate
Fractionation
process of breaking down cells and separating their contents, by homogenisation and ultracentrifugation
Eukaryotic
cell that contains membrane-bound nucleus + other membrane-bound organelles
Prokaryotic
Cell that does not contain a nucleus or membrane-bound organelles eg. bacteria
Virus
Acellular, non-living that contain DNA/RNA held in a capsid. Can only multiply inside living host cell.
Nucleus
Organelle containing DNA in protein bound linear chromosomes + nucleolus surrounded by nuclear envelope
Differentiation
process of cells becoming specialised for different functions
Interphase
stage in cell cycle where DNA and organelles replicate
Mitosis
type of nuclear division where 2 identical daughter cells are produced
stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
