Keywords Flashcards
What is a force?
A push or a pull on an object that causes it to accelerate or deform.
What is a Newton?
The unit in which forces are measured (N).
What is mass?
A measurement of the amount of matter in an object, measured in kilograms.
What is a contact force?
A force that can only be exerted between objects that are touching.
What is a non-contact force?
A force that can be exerted between objects that are not touching.
What is gravitational field strength?
The force of gravity on 1 kilogram, measured in Newtons per kilogram (N/kg).
What is a gravitational field?
The region of space where other objects can feel a gravitational force.
What is a fluid?
A substance with no fixed shape, a gas or a liquid.
What is pressure?
The ratio of force to surface area, in N/m2 , and how it causes stresses in solids.
What is atmospheric pressure?
The pressure caused by the weight of the air above a surface.
What is density?
An object’s mass divided by its volume. The denser an object is, the more mass it has per unit of volume.
What is volume?
The amount of space a 3D substance takes up. It can be measured in various units such as cm2, m2 and litres.
What is equilibrium?
State of an object when opposing forces are balanced.
What is deformation?
The changing of the shape of an object due to a force.
What is a linear relationship?
When two variables are graphed and show a straight line.
