What is a sample?
A sample is a randomly selected number of people from your population.
What is a census?
A survey/questionnaire which asks everyone in the population.
What is a random(simple) sample?
A random sample is where all people or items in the population have an equal chance of being picked.
What is a sample frame?
List or register of the popular
What is a pilot study?
A practise run of a questionnaire
What is a hypothesis?
A statement which you are going to prove it disprove.
E.g. There is more sunshine in Scotland than Wales
What is a control group?
A group which receives no treatment, to compare results with experimental group.
What is discrete data?
Data you can count e.g. numbers of cars in car park
What is continuos data?
Data you can measure e.g. Time, length, weight
What is qualitative data?
A quality e.g. Colour
What is quantitative data?
A quantity e.g. Number of pupils
How do you find the mean from a table?
Complete last column- fx -first column x frequency
Mean=total fx divided by total frequency
What is a population pyramid?
Side ways pyramid to show population of a country
What is the trend?
This is the general pattern, the answer will always be increasing, decreasing, fluctuating or no real trend.
What is cumulative frequency?
Adding up frequency as you go along into a new table, then usually plotted on a graph.
