define Conformity
A change in a person’s behaviour or opinions as a result of real or imagined pressure from other people
Normative social influence
Normative social influence is where a person conforms to fit in with the group only in public
Informational social influence
Informational social influence is where a person conforms because they have a desire to be right, and look to others who they believe may have more information.
internalisation
permanently adopting behaviours or attitudes of the group, both publicly & privately, because we see this as the right way
identification
changing your attitude or behaviour to conform to a particular role. The change will last as long as the person identifies with the role
compliance
changing our public attitudes or behaviour only when the majority is present, without any private change in behaviour.

locus of control
Locus of control is the degree to which people believe that they, as opposed to external forces, have control over the outcome of events in their lives.
Asch
Solomon Asch asked a participant and some confederates about the length of lines. the aim was to see if the participants would agree with the confederates despite the answer being wrong
social norms
social Norms are the unwritten rules of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours that are considered acceptable in a particular social group or culture
perceived norms
perceived norms are what we view as typical or standard in a group
misperception
misperception : a false or inaccurate perception
