What is a brownfield site
Land previously used for industrial purposes or some commercial uses
What does CBD stand for and what does it mean
a) Central Business District
b) The central area of a city.
Define Conurbation
An area in which a number of existing urban areas have grown and merged into a single large urban area.
Define De-industrialisation
The decline of industrial activity in a region or in an economy
Define Formal employment
Jobs where people work for regular pay, have employment rights and pay taxes
Define informal employment
Unofficial work, often without regular pay and employment rights ( Or payement of taxes)
Define megacity
A very large city with a population of over 10 million people ( Not to be confused with primate)
Define primary sector
Any industry involved with the extraction of raw materials
e.g Farming, mining agriculture, forestry, fishing
Define secondary sector
The economy sector associated with manufacturing.
e.g Construction worker, Industrial engineer, machinist
Define Tertiary sector
The economic sector associated with providing a service
Education, healthcare, entertainment, transport or trade are part of the tertiary sector.
Define Quaternary sector
Economic activity associated with the intellectual or knowledge based economy
e.g academic researcher, financial analyst, web developer, movie director, writer or painter
Define Primate city ( world city)
The largest city in a country which dominates its economy, politics and often infrastructure
What is “Pull Factor”
Something that attracts people to a place
What is “Push Factor”
The opposite of Pull factor, Something that encourages people to leave a place.
Define Rural - Urban Migration
The movement of people from the country side of towns and cities
