  • Brigade 2506 land in the ‘bay of pigs’ (beaches on a stretch of coast) with US backing to overthrow Castro
    -US air support withdrawal has put them in trouble
    -their ammunition reserves are insufficient and immediately came under fire of 20k cuban soldiers (no cubans joined their cause)
  • Word of the plan had spread thru the exiled cuban community in Florida. Cuban agents caught wind of plan and Castro had already prepared a military response
  • 1.2k of the exiles surrendered and were held ransom for $53million worth of baby food and medicine
