key things for clinical skills Flashcards
What is the duration of the normal PR interval ?
0.12-0.2 sec
How long is one small box on an ECG paper ?
0.04
What is the duration of the normal QRS complex ?
< 0.12 secs
What is the duration of the QT interval ?
< 0.42 secs
How many little boxes is the PR interval ?
3-5
How many little boxes can the QRS complex be ?
3 boxes or less
How many little boxes can the QT interval be ?
less than 10.5 boxes
What acronym is used to help interpret an ECG ?
ARIBAR
What does the A stand for in ARIBAR?
Any electrical activity - Is there a flat line or not ?
What does the R stand for in ARIBAR?
Rate - What is the HR ?
What does the I stand for in ARIBAR?
irregular or regular - Use a strip of paper and mark 3 or 4 QRS complexes and then move the paper and see if there is the same gap between QRS complexes further on
What does the B stand for in ARIBAR?
Broad or narrow QRS complexes - Are they more than 3 boxes then they are broad
What does the A stand for in ARIBAR?
Atrial activity i.e. are there any P waves ?
What does the R stand for in ARIBAR?
Relationship between atrial and ventricular activity
What does broad QRS complexes suggest ?
that the depolarisation has begun in the ventricle rather than the SA node i.e. Is every P wave followed by a QRS complex ? and is the PR interval regular ?
