Spanish Civil War
Conflict in Spain which was seen as a rehearsal for WWII when German and Italian forces intervened to support General Franco
Anti-Comintern Pact
Alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan in 1936 to combat the spread of Communism
Appeasement
Policy of Britain and France in 1930s allowing Hitler to break terms of Treaty of Versailles
Big Three
Three main leaders at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 - Lloyd George, Wilson and Clemenceau
Paris Peace Conference
Conference which ran from 1919-23 to decide how to officially end WWI and resulted in Treaty of Versailles and three other treaties
Treaty of Versailles
Treaty which officially ended war between Allies and Germany in 1919. Controversial because of the terms which Germany claimed to be excessively harsh.
Treaty of St Germain
Austria 1919 - had to recognise independence of Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, also had to limit army and pay reparations
Treaty of Neuilly
Bulgaria 1919 - recognise independence of Yugoslavia and lost territory, also payed reparations and limits on army
Treaty of Trianon
Hungary 1920 - had recognise independence of Austria, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, also empire was transferred and nearly no army limits
Treaty of Sèvres
Turkey 1920 - had to recognise independence of Hejaz and Armenia, also lost land and had army restrictions and some reparations
Treaty of Lausanne
Turkey 1923 - lost its Middle East provinces and European territory, restrictions on army was removed and no longer paying reparations
Saar
Region on border between Germany and France. Run by League from 1920 - 1935 when its people voted to become part of Germany
