what is mechanical solidarity?
Member of society who have common values and beliefs from architecture e.g farmers produce food for the factory workers who produce tractors for the farmers to produce the food
What is social solidarity?
Durkheim was primarily interested in what holds society together when it is made up of people with specialized roles and responsibilities. Durkheim argues that societies move from mechanical to organic solidarity through the division of labor.
What is meritocracy?
A society where by jobs and pay are allocated based on the individuals talent and achievement. (individuals that work hard will be rewarded in society)
What is social stratification?
Refers to a societies categorisation of its people into groups based on factors such as wealth, income, race, education, social status or occupation.
What is anti-school subculture?
identified by Paul willis: groups of students who rebel against the school and develop a set of values, attitudes and behaviours in opposition the the academic aims and rules of a school.

What is organic solidarity?
organic solidarity is social integration that arises out of the need of individuals for one another’s services. Theory by Emile durkheim
What is solidarity?
unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest; mutual support within a group.
What is marketisation?
A trend in education policy where schools were encouraged to compete against each other and act more like a private business than an institution run by the government.
what is a consensus theory?
Consensus theory is a social theory that holds a particular political or economic system as a fair system, and that social change should take place within the social institutions provided by it.
Define the term hidden curriculum
Hidden curriculum is a set of lessons which are learned but not intentionally. (philip jackson)
