FUNCTIONALIST
role allocation
>society requires a skilled workforce to meet the increasing demand of the 20th century capitalism
>The higher roles in society should be taken by those with the correct attributes
>Education prepares students based on these roles depending on their ability
davis and moore critics
Marxists- MERITOCRACY IS A MYTH designed to reinforce the traditional roles of middle and working class students.
Feminists- GENDER PAY GAP too much emphasis is placed on male professions e.g science which leads to gender pay inequality. FEmale dominated industries are given lower status despite requiring a similar level of education.
