describe key Q

A

The eating disorder anorexia which can be identified by the symptom to the low weight and taking appertite suppression pills have long-term effects such as nerve damage to the brain

It is often thought that modern day anorexia is caused by the Social Norm in western society that the Body Image is of people should be slim
If celebrities from the media were causing anorexia this would have negative implications to Society

as many people would try to ban celebrity influence on body images by for example banning fashion magazines from using Photoshop

Q

Social learning theory can be used to explain anorexia

A

When people observe an role models e.g slim celebrities from western society im media such as magazines advertising their diets

This is retained by people reading it

Then that behaviour slash diet is imitative as their attempting to get the weight of that slim celebrity this damage is their health severely giving anorexia the reason why they do this is because they have the external motivation of being slim and vicarious motivation that is celebrities are getting praised for their body and they want to be proposed so they imitate the celebrities but diet is rubbished so they just get anorexia

Q

An alternative explanation could be the anorexia is caused by biological factors

A

It could be down to genetics does have been inherited or low serotonin

Low levels of serotonin has been proven to lead to anxiety which perhaps has led to anorexia as people are anxious about their body not being good enough so they essentially starve themselves to get the social norm for Western Body Image Styles which is Slim
