An idea that has been created and accepted by the people in a society.
What is an example of a crime that differs between societies?
Laws on gay marriage, laws on drugs, laws on gun control, etc.
Which two ways can you measure crime?
Official statistics and self-report surveys.
What are official statistics?
The official numbers of reported crimes.
What are self-report surveys?
Surveys from criminals, victims of witnesses of crimes.
What is a criticism of official statistics?
Not all crimes are reported.
What is a criticism of self-report surveys?
Some people may lie, exaggerate or not admit to the crimes.
