Genetic Inheritance
Quite similar to our health being linked to our genes, some believe through our genes we are susceptible to conditions liked to mental health, others debate it’s through inheritance we are able to develop these mental health conditions.
Childhood Experience
A persons upbringing and experiences can have an impact on the way a person looks at life in the future.
Social support and networks.
If a person has a good strong support network (e.g. family, local community, friends) then this can have a positive effect on a persons wellbeing and also how they perceive the negative events of life.
If down family&friends can provide a feeling of strength and remind them they’re not alone.
Life events.
These are the experiences that a person will undergo which can have a massive part to play in a persons wellbeing. These experiences can sway how a person reacts to the issues faced in daily life.
(Experiences of childhood, education, relationships and work life can shape someone’s approach and outlook on life.)
Own ability to cope.
Being resilient when it comes to everyday pressures and stressors. Having coping mechanisms a person can use when they are faced with these pressures.
Being able to use past events to make decisions.
Being healthy.
A person having balance in their in their work life, diet, personal and social life as well as exercise.
Employment.
Being employed can give a person direction, as well as a feeling of self worth.
Giving a person routine and financial stability. As long as you have a good balance between work and home you have the foundation for good mental health.
Financial security.
When a person has a feeling as if they can pay for everything they need without constantly stressing over money is a positive factor in mental wellbeing.
Adequate housing.
Having a place where a person feels safe and secure is a positive factor in a persons mental wellbeing.
Trauma.
Traumatic events can be a trigger in developing mental ill health.
(E.g. violence, abuse)
*not everyone who experiences trauma will develop Mental Ill Health. Some may have a good support network.
