Mechanism of Action

A

Non-competitive NMDA-R antagonist which inhibits glutamate binding and subsequent depolarization of afferent neurons which prevents transmission of pain impulses and generates dissociative state

Adult Dose

A

-RSI 2mg/kg slow IV/IO
-Sedation 1mg/kg IV/IO, q 5-15min as needed
-Excited delirium 4mg/kg IM (max single dose 500mg; may give additional 100mg IM in 5-10 min) or 1mg/kg IV/IO over 2 min (may give additional 0.5-1mg/kg IV/IO in 5 min, max total 2mg/kg)
-Pain management 0.3mg/kg IV/IO/IM (max 30mg)
