Peace Corps (1961)
Young Americans serve in 3rd world countries, building social and economic development in those nations. This also increases global American influence
Bay of Pigs (1961)
Cuban exiles sent to overthrow Castro in Cuba. US not directly involved in conflict, but failed massively.
Berlin Wall (1961)
Production of the Berlin Wall, creating a barrier to keep Eastern Berliners inside USSR territory after they kept fleeing to the West.
Cuban Missle Crisis (1962)
US finds Soviet missiles in Cuba that could potentially destroy US. Sets up quarantine for Cuban ships to monitor for weapons. Soviet eventually withdraw missles.
Coup in Vietnam (1963)
Loyalist leaders caught off guard. Diem killed by US forces because of conflicts with Buddhist reform. (Diem tried to repress Buddhists and didn’t reform after US asked him to take care of his govt)
Domino Theory
If South Vietnam gets overrun by communism, the rest of South East Asia would soon fall. Start of intervention in the UN, fear of spread to America.
