Good Neigbor Policy (1933)
FDR’s plan to improve US relations with South American countries. This included using trade and cooperation instead of military occupations to maintain influence.
Neutrality Acts (1930s)
Created to prevent the Us from joining foreign wars by stating US neutrality. Plan to avoid making financial deals with other countries/ keeping isolationist policies.
Munich Agreement and Appeasement (1938)
Agreement with Great Britain, France, Italy, and Nazi Germany that allowed for German annexation of Czechoslovakia. Led to the growth of German influence leading up to WWII.
Cash and Carry (1939)
System where US sold weaponry to the allied powers if they came to the US to pick them up. Allowed them to support a side w/o directly going to a battle area.
Lend-Lease Act (1941)
Gives FDR virtually unrestrained authority to send war efforts towards aiding the Allied Powers w/o violating neutrality. Shifted US economy into a wartime economy.
Atlantic Charter (1941)
Joint declaration by FDR and Churchill stating that the US would remain neutral. Churchill wanted FDR to join the war, but the statement helped improve British morale and characterize FDR’s goal for a world w/ free trade, disarmament, collective security. Inspiration for countries fighting for independence.
Pearl Harbor (1941)
Attack on US port by Japanese bombs, both nations declared war on each other in 1942. Diplomatic relations were suspended and more efforts were made to stop Japanese powers throughout WWII.
