The way plants use sunlight to make food
Photosynthesis
Consumer
A living thing that eats other living things
Environment
Everything that surrounds a living thing
Decomposer
A living thing that breaks down dead plants and animals
Food chain
The path of energy in the form of food going from one living thing to another
Herbivore
an animal that eats mostly plants
Producer
Any living thing that makes, or produces, its own food
Carnivore
An animal that eats other animals🦅
Omnivore
An animal that eats both plants and animals
Bacteria
Any of the smallest kinds of microorganism 🦠
Food web
a way of showing how food chains in any place are linked together
Protist
A kind of microorganism larger than bacteria
Compete
to try to get the same thing that others need or want
Fungus
A plantlike living thing that breaks down dead plants and animals
Microorganism
any kind of living thing that is too small to be seen with just our eyes. We need a microscope to see these microorganisms
Photosynthesis
The way plants use sunlight to make food
Food chain
The path of energy in the firm of food going from one living thing to another
Food web
A way of showing how food chains in any place are linked together
What do plants need to make food for themselves?
- Water
- Sunlight
- Gas ( Carbon dioxide)
What is the food that plants make?
Sugar. The sugar has energy in it. Plants need energy to live and grow. When we seat plants, we get that energy.
Why do plants look green?
Because they contain a green material called Chlorophyll. This chlorophyll traps sunlight, which is energy from the sun.
Stomata
Tiny holes in plants through which carbon dioxide enters the plant. They are on the bottom of each leaf.
Ecosystem
All the living things and non-living things working together in an area
Climate
The kind weather an area has over time
Pollen
Powdery material that flowers need to make seeds
Emergent layer
The tops of trees in a rain forest
Pistil
The part of a plant where seeds are made
Stamen
The part of a plant where pollen comes from
Canopy
The layer just under the tops of the trees in a rain forest, where plants and animals live
Pollination
The movement of pollen to the seed making part of a flower (pistil)
Nectar
Sweet liquid formed inside flowers
Adaptation
A body feature or way of acting that helps a living thing survive in its environment
Endangered
Few left of this kind of species
Camouflage
How a living thing might blend into its surroundings
Extinct
None of this kind of living thing is left alive today
Mimicry
How an animal may look like some kind of other living thing
