What is the PLISSIT model?

It is a model that is build like a pyramide where the first steps usually help the most people.
In the PLISSIT Model, what does P stand for?
Permission:
Getting permissino by the practitioner and accepting ones behaviours and sexuality.
Non judgment is important to convey that it is okay and not bad!
In the PLISSIT Model, what does LI stand for?
Limited Information:
Giving the client the specific information they need, like psychoeducation, organizations, support groups,…
In the PLISSIT Model, what does SS stand for?
Specific Suggestions:
The therapist gives the client specific suggestions like treatments, medication, exercises, how to change (sexual) behaviour
In the PLISSIT Model, what does IT stand for?
Intensive Therapy:
Here the therapist refers to or treats with specific therapies that can deal with underlying issues and concerns
What are the sexual dysfunctions?
Sexual arousal dysfunctions
Hypoactive sexual desire dysfunction
Orgasmic dysfunctions
Ejaculatory dysfunctions
What are the Paraphilic disorders?
Exhibitionistic disorder
Voyeuristic disorder
Pedophilic disorder
Coercive sexual sadism disorder
Frotteuristic disorder
What is Hypoactive sexual desire dysfunction?
No desire:
1. Generally
2. When cued/stimulated
3. Desire is not sustained
Often caused, because of not intrinsically motivated sex!
-> This is rather seen as a normal reaction than a disorder
What is Sexual arousal dysfunction?
Not having a bodily response even if desire is there!
(in men erectile dysfunction)
What is orgasmic dysfunctions?
Not having the ability to orgasm (anorgasmia), even though the person is getting adequate stimulation and has the desire for this
At least 3 months
This has the norm behind it, that orgasm is (always) a part of normal sexual functioning
In men this would be diagnosed as Male delayed ejaculation
What is Ejaculators dysfunctions?
Male delayed ejaculation
Male early ejaculation
Too late/never/early orgasm when adequatly stimulated
Both at least for 3 months.
Both have the norm behind it that orgasm has to happen at a certain point for normal sexual functioning.
Delayed ejaculatory dysfunction is the equivalent to orgasmic dysfunction
Which medicine can be taken for Male early ejaculation?
And how does it work?
Dapoxetine
Dapoxetine is a fast acting (1,5h) SSRI!
What is sexual therapy?
A mixture of different therapies and psychoeducation.
It has many exercises:
Differences in sexual desire
Start-Stop training
Pelvic floor training
Sensualization training
Communication training
Which three approaches are normally taken when treating gender incongruence?
Psychological
Hormonal
Surgical
But not everyone wants all of these!
